		<description>The only reason I can guess is perhaps it's harder to hack OBJECT tags for XSS attacks, or perhaps a widget vendor figured a way around the allownetorking attribute in the embed tag.</description>

(I've been trying to imagine what today's set of browsers would do with just OBJECT, but cannot yet see what goal they might be trying to attain with such a move.)

The nested OBJECT/EMBED includes both, and gives each browser what they document they want.
