MySpace Going All Object on Yo Flash
For those of you with who serve Flash content to The Beast, they are changing their Flash embedding requirements. No longer can you get embed with them. You must be the object of their desires (via) to get onto profiles.
They are automatically converting profiles over to the new object codes, so old embeds will still work – they’ll be automatically malamuted over. Trouble is, it seems they are converting them in phases, along with the requirements. So, some people are still able to post embeds and they work, and some must use object. This may create an awkward situation for those of you serving codes to the masses. You may need to offer both for a while.

That’s what MySpace *appears* to be doing, but I haven’t seen any substantial info from them yet.
(I’ve been trying to imagine what today’s set of browsers would do with just OBJECT, but cannot yet see what goal they might be trying to attain with such a move.)
The nested OBJECT/EMBED includes both, and gives each browser what they document they want.

The only reason I can guess is perhaps it’s harder to hack OBJECT tags for XSS attacks, or perhaps a widget vendor figured a way around the allownetorking attribute in the embed tag.
