The Hallmarks of Web 2.0 Style

Filed under: Commentary, General — geoff @ 4:23 pm

Webdesignfromscratch has an interesting post that dissects the graphical style of current – how you say – “Web 2.0″ style in web design. In short, big text, white space, gradients, and cute icons. So – attention all you web designers because this is really important – we should all make our web sites look like this.

I personally always use rounded corners so my users do not hurt themselves using my sites. Seriously, though, it’s a good read, and demonstrates some of the very important lessons that designers have learned as the web has matured. Namely, that web design is becoming more and more content-centric. This is good for usability and communication.

Three Must-have Firefox Extensions for Web Development

Filed under: Flash, General — geoff @ 2:55 pm

Firefox 2.0 is wonderful.  Not only is it great for browsing the web, it’s a great tool for building for the web.  With a few extensions, it can become an invaluable tool for your web and Flash development.  Here’s the rundown:

  • Flash Switcher – (via Zeuslabs) allows you to switch Flash plugin versions on the fly, without reloading Firefox.  Supports versions all the way back to Flash 2.
  • FlashTracer – With the Flash 9 debug player, you can view your trace information right inside Firefox.  Great for remote debugging!
