Picklish adds FTP Upload
The Picklish Photo Gallery Creator now has integrated FTP upload functionality. This makes it possible to publish Flash photo galleries to the web via simple drag and drop, without leaving the program. I hope to create a spin-off of this software and offer a free image uploader for automated image upload for people’s personal web sites.
There are significant advantages to using software like this to upload images, as opposed to just the browser. You get client-side image scaling, which reduces the file size significantly, thereby reducing your upload time by 10 to 20 times. You also have the convenience of drag and drop.
It would certainly make sense for Google to create desktop software that does client-side FLV encoding and automated uploading. It’s silly to have to upload a 100mb video only to have it immediately compressed to 10mb. It’s a waste of time and bandwidth.
With regards to the technology used for the FTP upload, I use cURL to handle it at the command-line. cURL is a robust and proven tool for handling HTTP and FTP communication. I could imagine libcurl being incorporated into Apollo applications for batch HTTP and FTP operations.
I’m sure those of you who have been following Picklish (thanks mom) remember that I’ve added video capability. So, give it a shot with some of your video clips.

WOW. I have been using Simpleviewer and Porta combo and i love them but the simplicity of this is fantastic.
Can i ask for one improvement in a future release: using the EXIF data to auto rotate the image to the proper perspective.
I will also have to investigate how to modify the page so set my own parameter of number of rows and columns in the index view.
Thanks
