Drag and Drop Video added to Picklish

Filed under: General — geoff @ 1:12 am

Flash photo galleries with videoI don’t know how many of you have a digital camera that also shoots video, but I have a Canon Digital Elph that shoots pretty good quality video.  Of course, with only an SD memory card, you are limited to only short video clips.  I’ve got tons of photos in my library with little video snippets included.  Inside the camera, you can browse your videos just like your photos.  So I thought, why not on the web?  Why is it that every site out there separates videos and photos?  There’s YouTube for video, and then there’s Flickr for photos.

So, I decided to get my hands dirty with ffmpeg, acmenc, and MDM Zinc, and get them to play nice together.  The result is the next version of Picklish, which allows you to drag and drop both photos and videos to create a true multimedia gallery.

Here’s an example video gallery I created.  I welcome you to give the program a try, and let me know how it works with your videos.

  1. […] Found this link to a bit of software called ‘Picklish‘. It allows you to create simple flash galleries of pictures and videos to put on a web page. Nice and simple, with a slick Flash interface. Well worth a look. […]

  2. I got very excited when I found picklish but….you’ve really got to do two things to improve. And I bet it would be a snap (I’m open for any advice regarding a hack I could do myself).

    1) make the videos larger!! Grandma will never be able to see them as is. Seriously, video sharing with family is a big factor for many people, incl yours truly.

    2) I’ve got 100’s of clip from a digicam too. None have timestamp overlays like real camcorders. But the filenames are in format yyy-mm-dd.mpg. And way to pull that info on-screen? Or steal an idea from jalbum.net and read a comments.properties file for the info?

Well, I can count on my hand how many flash video gallery products are out there right now, yours is so easy and slick it’s definitely got the most potential. At least consider an option to make the clips bigger, k?

    Thanks for reading!
