The Lego Store, A Dream Come True

Filed under: Diversions — geoff @ 6:20 pm

I just discovered The Lego Store at a nearby mall. I rarely visit malls (I’m actually a mall-phobic) so I had no idea such a thing existed. Walking into the store I felt a rush. It’s simply amazing. I’ve not been a fan of the sets they’ve been coming up with recently. I’ve always felt the pieces were too large and too specialized.

But, on the rear of the store, there’s a grid of dispensers built into the rear wall, a bulk-foods smorgasbord of legos. Grab a cup, and fill it for a set price. Oh – my – God. A dream come true! I filled one large and one small cup for an Andrew Jackson. Be careful though, I ended up with four curved hood half-pieces that were all right-side. Now I need to go back and get the left side. Darn. ; )

The one thing I was really looking for were mini-figures. They don’t have those in the bulk legos section, and sets only come with a couple each. Lego only offers one people set, which comes with 25 or so people, but it’s very expensive. It’d be nice if we could build our own people at the store!

Zanpo, Virtual Cities is a site I built about 6 years ago, which is heavily driven by my love of legos. It’s really showing it’s age though – I built it in Flash 5 – so I’d love to be able to upgrade it. Unfortunately, web sites are not as timeless as legos!
