If you don't have Adobe Illustrator and you want to keep the vector data when copying Flash shapes to fireworks, the safest/fastest way is to save it from flash as .ai (illustrator) and import it into your fireworks scene. For some weird reason, it works fine if you copy&paste from FW to Flash, but not vice versa.

I found that I could paste a load of layers from Flash MX2004 into Illustrator CS2 and retain all the layers - I don't use Illustrator much and draw in Flash, but I had reached the limit of the stage size in Flash and needed something to deal with text so was having a play with a trial version of Illustrator. I think it worked the other way too - it was a while ago though and I have not tried since because I can't afford Illustrator for real and don't need it for my work.

I agree - copy and paste is annoying, but with a bit of tweaking you can do magic. FOr example you cannot copy vectors from PS to Flash, but if you copy it to Illustrator and then to Flash it works super fine... and that's only the beginning.
