A Slideshow from Mosul, Iraq

Filed under: General — geoff @ 1:05 am

A Star from Mosul, a 16 year-old blogger from Iraq, has posted a slideshow of her niece on my site. At first, I only saw the slideshow on my own site, and thought, “Awww, what a cute baby…” But then I looked at my referrer logs and saw her blog. I was taken aback to see she is from Iraq. Not only that she is blogging from a warzone, but to see the normalcy of the images in the slideshow – to see birth where there is so much death – struck me.

I don’t dare to imagine what life is like in Iraq right now. But, it seems that people there are trying to live their lives as best they can. When I read bits like this:

At night yesterday, I brushed my teeth, the water was so cold that all my teeth started aching! I didn’t dare to wash my face with such cold water although I needed to (I’ve declared a war against acne!).

Today, I heard one BIG explosion and few far shooting! Nothing close to us.
I’m having a difficulty with studying. Although we didn’t go back to school, but we do need to study!

And this…

I don’t feel like posting, but I’m Okay; although a car bomb exploded not too far from our house, it shook the whole house, but no windows were broken.

My brain scrambles. I can see people trying to regain precious normalcy in their lives. I am saddened by what is going on in Iraq, and I hope to see more and more slideshows of Aya.

  1. Hey man,

Thanks for that! That’s so cool.
