EPIC 2014: Eat Google Grid
The Museum of Media History 2014, aka Robin Sloan has come back from the future to show us a time-shifted Flash documentary. It is a commentary on the future of the Mediascape. I’m not sure if I agree with his conclusions, but he makes an excellent point about what could happen if humans are removed from the editorial process.
Working for a fairly large online media organization, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I also think it makes an interesting point about what becomes wildly popular on the internet, and if those things that are popular are necessarily good for society as a whole, or do anything to advance the human condition. Since Google rewards sites that have the most links to it, naturally the most popular sites would be the ones where a lot people link to it and say “Hey bro! Looka dis!”. And, since the most popular links show up first in Google, they become even more popular, following a power law.
I was disappointed, though, that this wasn’t about Faith No More getting back together. I’d be happy, even if I did have to wait until 2014.
