A Slideshow from Mosul, Iraq

Filed under: General — geoff @ 1:05 am

A Star from Mosul, a 16 year-old blogger from Iraq, has posted a slideshow of her niece on my site. At first, I only saw the slideshow on my own site, and thought, “Awww, what a cute baby…” But then I looked at my referrer logs and saw her blog. I was taken aback to see she is from Iraq. Not only that she is blogging from a warzone, but to see the normalcy of the images in the slideshow - to see birth where there is so much death - struck me.

Flash Satay and Parameters, Flash on Other Domains

Filed under: Flash — geoff @ 1:02 am

I’ve been futzing around trying to get Drew McLellan’s Flash Satay object code to work with my site. The thing is, when I give users code to post slideshows on their own site, they need to have the BASE parameter set so that they can embed the flash movie that resides on my site onto their own.

Friday Fun: I want a Lego Gunstar for Christmas

Filed under: Diversions — geoff @ 5:24 pm

One of my favorite Sci-Fi movies when I was a kid was The Last Starfighter. In preparing my list for Santa, I stumbled upon this gunstar made out of legos. Ooh. That beats Star Wars legos by a mile. What other sci-fi movies should they make into legos? This and Battle Beyond the Stars get my vote.

Slideshows with Transitions

Filed under: Flash — geoff @ 1:30 am

Yin, meet Yang.... Yang, meet Ying.I just put the finishing touches on a new feature of my site, Slideroll. I’ve added a choice of 10 transitions to the slideshow creator. Now, instead of only fades, you can add neato special effects. Give it a try. Look for the yin yang button.

EPIC 2014: Eat Google Grid

Filed under: General — geoff @ 10:50 am

The Museum of Media History 2014, aka Robin Sloan has come back from the future to show us a time-shifted Flash documentary. It is a commentary on the future of the Mediascape. I’m not sure if I agree with his conclusions, but he makes an excellent point about what could happen if humans are removed from the editorial process.
