Benoit, I’ve Always Loved You

Screenshot of the Flash Mandelbrot Set ExplorerBack in August of 2001, I created a Mandelbrot set explorer in Flash. It uses recursive movieclips and, of course, the iterative imaginary number function to display the set in a unique way. It’s a little buggy, but you can navigate back and forth along your path.

If anyone fixes the bugs or does something unique with this, let me know. I had originally thought it would be a neat way to create a secret messaging system, where people could hide messages inside the set.

Click on a circle to go deeper into the set. The edge areas are most interesting. Click the back arrow to go back to your previous selections.

  1. Very clever, this would be a good teaching tool to show how fractals are calculated. I like the color selection too.
